My name is Coach Kiri. I am a junior coach at Jumpstart Performance Coaching. Some may recognize me from being on the gym floor of TPA Sports as a Strength and Conditioning coach.
There are so many aspects that make up an individual’s performance. The mental side of the game is a key component that is often overlooked. My aim is to guide athletes to focus on everything they can do mentally and physically to help them achieve their highest potential.
Sport has always been a significant part of my life. It was in my University career where mental and physical training helped me strive as an athlete. Attending York University I graduated with an Honours Bachelor Degree of Science in Kinesiology while playing varsity women’s hockey for the York Lions. This is where I first got exposed and fell in love with Strength and Conditioning coaching. I worked as an assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach in the York Lions Varsity Gym under some amazing mentors. While playing varsity hockey I met Susan Hobson, the founder of Jumpstart Performance Coaching. Susan started coaching me at a critical time in my career, when I felt like I was starting to plateau in my performance. She taught me how to implement mental skills, strategies, tools, and habits which helped me to exponentially improve my performance.
For my final year at York University, I unfortunately was unable to put on a Lions jersey due to a concussion. However, I turned this into an amazing opportunity to teach my fellow teammates of my current knowledge of mental skills. I noticed how giving little advice to my teammates on what to focus on drastically helped them to overcome mental roadblocks.
During my final year at York and into the summer after I graduated, I was working full time at TPA Sports as a Strength and Conditioning Coach. I became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). During that summer Susan approached me to start an intensive mental skills training program with her. She opened my eye to the amazing opportunity of mixing both mental and physical attributes in order to maximize an individual’s performance.
While training with Susan, I also went on to obtain my Masters in Strength and Conditioning at LIT in Ireland. Studying both Strength and Conditioning mental and psychology skills simultaneously allowed me to extensively look for opportunities and develop systems in which I could seamlessly integrate the two components.
I have encountered amazing mentors and coaches along my journey who have helped me to cultivate a mindset that has enabled me to be the coach I am today. Through personal experience on how mental and physical training has helped me achieve my highest potential I am on a mission to help others discover a similar journey to achieve their success.
I look forward to working with you!
